Focus and Approach:

Being a mother myself, I am truly passionate about working with parents as they strive to provide the best possible care for their children. I will stand alongside you and support you while we endeavor to find the solutions that are unique to your child. Every parent feels overwhelmed by all the info they can find online—other cases, half truths about supplements, diet suggestions, and quick remedies. I can take that burden from you so that you can focus your time and attention on being a parent and caretaker for your child.
Through my years of practice and research, I have learned a great deal about the body’s healing pathways and the healing process. I know how to identify the underlying needs that the body has, the hidden dysfunction or imbalance that could be contributing to a condition, and how to prioritize giving the body the correct tools and resources it truly needs for transformation.

Why I Became a Doctor:

Originally, my plan was to become a physical therapist so that I could help people heal. I spent a lot of time shadowing PT’s working with children with various physical needs. It was during this time that I first fell in love with the idea of working with kids. While I watched the PT’s provide physical support to these kids, I found myself frustrated with the idea that I couldn’t also offer metabolic, physiological, nutritional, and emotional support as well.
During this time I was also dealing with my own health issues. I had become frustrated with the conventional medicine approach and I was not getting better. Then, I met a naturopathic doctor, and I finally felt truly heard and seen. Working with him was a paradigm shift for me. Instead of just the physical, now I could help people in a truly holistic way: mind, body and spirit. I realized that naturopathic medicine was the perfect career for me.

Things you may not know about me:

  • How to pronounce my last name: It’s pronounced “Botso”, like pizza, the two z’s make a “t” noise. I married an Italian 😉
  • I have 3 amazing children, 2 of them were home water births and my first child was born at a birthing center
  • I’ve visited 48/50 states (missing North Dakota and West Virginia)
  • I played lacrosse in college
  • During undergrad I studied abroad in New Zealand and Nepal
  • My soul feels most at rest when I am gazing at Mt. Hood while surrounded by Oregon evergreens

Praise for Dr Joy

“Dr. Joy is a key part of my son’s health team. When my son was 11, he began having seizures which led to the diagnosis of Tuberous Sclerosis, a rare genetic disorder that causes seizures that are difficult to control with medication. His doctors and TSC specialists were helpful in diagnosing and monitoring his condition. However, my son’s seizures were not fully under control and he experienced many side effects due to the high doses of medication that he was taking. Feeling hopeless with the answers we were receiving, we reached out to Dr. Joy. With her expertise, she was able to look at my son’s condition holistically and provide another level of support to his body systems through supplements and nutrition. With Dr. Joy’s support, my son has been seizure-free for over a year while taking lower doses of his seizure medication. I have seen my son re-enter his life without the constant fear of having a seizure. Thank you, Dr. Joy!”

“Dr. Joy worked with our family for years, first for my younger son who has Autism, and later for my older son who has CHARGE Syndrome. My Autistic son had a great deal of GI related issues, and Dr. Joy was able to help us navigate all his food sensitivities and work to heal his gut. Not only did many of his skin related issues resolve, but many of his “stims” improved or resolved too. He’s a much happier and healthier child now, and this has allowed him to continue to develop, learn, and grow.
My older son had ongoing issues with reflux that were greatly impacting his quality of life. We were looking at lifelong medications, but Dr. Joy was able to help us find the root causes. We were able to resolve his reflux in just a few months without the use of medication! Beyond her skills with looking beneath the surface, she has a wonderful bedside manner, especially with children like mine. I would recommend her without hesitation!”
